Scholarly Books
Scholarly books are reported as research outputs under category B, while chapters in scholarly books are reported under category C.
If a book is published in the Czech Republic, a mandatory legal deposit copy must be registered with the National Library of the Czech Republic.
For scholarly books published abroad, the following criteria are verified:
- Availability of a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or an Open Access (OA) link.
- Discoverability in an internationally recognised library catalogue.
For more information, visit the National Library of the Czech Republic.
Predatory Journals
Predatory journals are a serious concern in scholarly publishing. They exploit the open access publishing model, primarily seeking to collect publication fees from authors and generate profit, often without providing adequate editorial and peer-review services.
One resource for identifying potentially predatory publishers and journals is https://beallslist.net/, an independently maintained list based on the original work of Jeffrey Beall.
Another useful resource is http://thinkchecksubmit.org/ (also available in Czech as Vím, kde publikuji). This initiative provides practical guidance to help researchers assess the credibility and quality of academic journals before submitting their manuscripts.
Additional information is available through the Czech http://antipredator.vedazije.cz/ Academic Anti-Predator initiative.
Author Identifiers
Identifying authors accurately can be challenging in scholarly publishing, particularly when researchers share the same name or publish under different name variations.
To ensure reliable author identification in the Czech Research, Development and Innovation Information System (IS VaVaI), the use of unique author identifiers is recommended. These identifiers help link researchers to their publications and other research outputs.
The main author identification services include ORCID, ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID.
- ORCID: Register for an ORCID iD. When registering, use your institutional affiliation with Brno University of Technology (BUT).
- ResearcherID: Register for a ResearcherID.
- Linking identifiers: Where applicable, link your Scopus Author ID and ResearcherID to your ORCID record.
- University profile: Add your author identifier to your profile in the BUT Portal.
